Guardian Village Key Rings:|
These hand carved ICHTHYS key rings are made exclusively for Faithware. ICHTHYS is the classic Greek word for fish. The "Fish" symbol was adopted by early Christians as a secret sign, due to persecution. It is said that as two people met for the first time, one could draw an arc in the sand with his sandal or staff and the other person would draw the other half of the arc to form the fish and confirm that they too were Christian. If it was not confirmed, they could simply wipe the unfinished arc away. The fish sign gradually developed into a symbol that could be scratched into rocks and walls to designate meeting spots. The original fish symbol was chosen as an acronym because in Greek, the "I" represents the word JESUS, the "CH" represents CHRIST, the "TH" represents GOD, The "Y' represents SON and the S represents Savior. So ICHTYHS represents "Jesus Christ, Son Of God, Savior." The fish symbol is still used worldwide as a symbol of Christianity and has even found it's way to modern technology where it is used in e-mails as a signature " <>< "
Our key rings have our "HIO" theme on one side and the other side is plain. Each key ring is hand carved out of water buffalo bone and is available in antique white or toast brown colors.
